Boy, I have never felt so out of my league and yet completely in my element as I did today. Stepping into a real shearing setup felt like being thrown into a restaurant kitchen during their dinner rush. But the crew was super helpful and patient with us. My low point was watching the shearer do battle with a stubborn and terrified ram, which my mind keeps replaying over and over. And my high point? Guessing a sample’s fineness within .3 microns, which meant I had to buy everyone a drink at dinner. Only our waitress forgot to put them all on my tab, so I still owe 9 really nice people a drink sometime between now and 2050.
