I have a very hard time cutting peonies and bringing them inside. Who am I to play god? How can I kill them while their friends watch? What gives me the right to deprive them of the outdoors? But since nature did the job for me in last night’s rain, I grabbed my finest crystal vase* and made myself a bouquet. As long as I keep the window open, they can still talk to their friends outside.
